Today we bring you a feature on Mike London for recently receiving a sportsmanship award from First Tee South Central Wisconsin. This honor recognized Mike’s integrity and respect for the game, traits he consistently demonstrated throughout the season, even during challenging rounds.

John Shipshock recounted the event that inspired Mike’s nomination: while attending a summer tournament to watch his daughter play, John noticed Mike maintaining a positive attitude and displaying exceptional sportsmanship despite having a tough day on the course. This stood out as a testament to Mike’s character, and the values instilled through the Club’s Junior Golf Program.

In addition to his recognition from First Tee, Mike was also awarded Bishops Bay’s Arland Hocker Award, which represents the Club’s commitment to promoting integrity and respect among its young athletes. Reflecting on the importance of sportsmanship, Mike emphasized its role in fostering honesty and mutual respect in golf, a sport where self-regulation is often enforced by the honor system.

When asked about his golf journey, Mike highlighted the camaraderie and enjoyment of playing with friends, particularly in high school tournaments. He also shared his admiration for professional golfer Steve Stricker, whose smooth swing serves as inspiration. Looking ahead, Mike aims to refine his skills, focusing on his short game and driving accuracy.
